Some recent portraits of my four nephews and John's nephew (with a curl right in the middle of his forehead), including a few work-in-progress shots that seem to reveal that my portraits of children often start out looking like creepy dolls in horror movies! I always begin with a very rough sketch and 'sculpt' and adjust as I go along.

A commission from last year - a portrait of Emily Anderson (1891-1962) for the Emily Anderson Concert Hall (formerly Aula Maxima Upper) at NUI Galway. Only one small photograph exists of her as an adult. She was an authority on Mozart and Beethoven and translated their correspondence. She was also the first Professor of German at University College Galway (now NUI Galway). A sneak peek at the cover of Rab Fulton's new book, illustrated by me, to be published by The History Press Ireland in November 2017. Five months ago I didn't even know what a Victorian bathing machine was... I created two versions, one in coloured pencils, placed on a flat background, for the invites and for use on the web, and one in acrylics for the poster and programmes. Prints of these will be available soon. This is a recent commission, a painting of the Quadrangle at NUI Galway, a building I pass several times a week when the University is my workplace. It is acrylics and measures 30 x 40cm. I was asked to include autumn colours in the trees in addition to the red ivy on the building, and there are some specks of gold and copper paint in there among the reds, oranges and burnt sienna. Some photos from our book launch last month. Thank you to everyone who came and supported us. I thoroughly enjoyed illustrating these books, and it was so nice to mark their publication with this event. Special thanks to Fionnuala, Deirdre and James for all their help and to June for her wonderful Ulysses pop-up performance and of course the writers Amie Ní Nualláin, Lionel Gallagher (and Conor Gallagher, who did the design and layout for the Jumbo book) and Pilar Alderete Diez and Irma Mento!

These two paintings, which were done in preparation for illustrations for a forthcoming children's book, are now available in our Etsy shop. They are in acrylics, which were also used for the final illustrations, but for the book we decided to go with a flatter, blockier style.
